Cherise elevates the standard of ready-to-assemble furniture. Utilizing high quality materials and fasteners, this piece is built to last through numerous moves and dissasembly. Fabricated with solid cherry wood, mild steel, and upholstered with tabby weave cotton.
Cherise was my final project and Senior Capstone thesis at Appalchian State Univeristy, in the Spring of 2024. After my previous seating studio, I set out to create a couch that was as comfortable as possible. I also wanted to address a common issue and one I have come across several times in my life: moving furniture. My family has moved internationally four times before residing in the U.S., with time in college bringing my total relocations to seven. What’s more, the average person moves 11 times in their life (U.S. Census Bureau, 2021). Moving large pieces of furniture is strenuous and taxing, and most ready-to-assemble furniture that comes flat-packed often lacks durabilty and has issues when dismantled and reassembled. With these considerations in mind, I focused my attention on utilizing fasteners and creating quality parts that are aesthetically pleasing, but can also hold up after being disassembled. This was also my first time working with foam and upholstery, something that was very intimidating but rewarding once completed.
