Parfait Dining Chair

The Parfait Chair is a conceptual seating project inspired by Michelin Star dessert plating techniques. Geometric planes piercing rounded bodies; layers stacked on finely textured ingredients; precise placing of elements to assemble balanced arrangements. Utilizing these concepts resulted in a delicate composition that highlights fine attention to detail. Fabricated with powder coated aluminum and African mahogany.

2024 Smith Gallery Art + Design Expo People’s Choice Award

The Parfait Chair was created for my Senior-level studio seating project in the Fall of 2023. Our brief stated that the design must be original, must function as seating, and must be reproducible in a production setting. With such open guidelines, I began with a visual language inspiration board, analyzing fine dining dessert plating techniques to influence my design process. The ideas I focused on were repetition of planes, contrast of geometric forms, and visual delicacy. Through experimentation with bent aluminum, powder coating, and angled machining processes, it was a challenging, but successful undertaking to complete. Parfait requires no welding, can be flat-packed, and almost strictly utilizes CNC processes during fabrication.
